This is a story about blood sugar correction in the absence of dietary change. If you’d like help with correcting blood sugar or losing weight please click here
Sometimes things happen in clinic that blow my mind, and are even more powerful wins than I expect. This story is exactly that.
This is the case of a man in his 70’s with recurring cardiac pain and GI pain, and was trying to avoid another surgery. His chest hurt and his belly hurt. He also had severe bloating, was overweight, on high blood pressure medications, blood sugar medications, and was regularly visiting multiple doctors a week. Each doctor had a different opinion about his diet and would loudly contradict the others, warning against other doctors’ diets – even though none were expert in nutrition. Nothing he did was fixing the problems, even when he tried to start implementing some doctor’s dietary changes. The root of his cardiac issues was stemming from his digestive system – specifically the area of the pyloric valve, and he had multiple pathogens: fungus, bacteria, virus, and parasites, glyphosates and mycotoxin (mold die-off).
In the book Sick Buildings Syndrome, Walter Goldstein alerts us to the fact that mold exposure is prevalent in the work place: in the US 85% of buildings have had past water damage, while 43% of buildings have current water damage. Unless you have a nose like mine (I can smell an eagle fart a mile away!), you might not even know. Or you’re so used to the smell that it doesn’t reigster. But if you’re like most people, once you learn this you’ll start trying to sniff mildew and mold everywhere. GOOD! 🙂
By the way, there’s a quick and inexpensive test you can get at Home Depot or Lowes for about $10.
Because his drainage system was so backed up, we had to go really slow in order not to overload his lymphatic system. When your body tries to dump too many toxins before your drainage/lymph system is open, this is called a healing crisis.
In swimming as in detox, we have a saying:
Go slow to go smooth, and go smooth to go fast
Then we began the step-by-step protocol to first open his lymphatic system and restart his mitochondria, then to start clearing out his gut of pathogenic material including mold and their evil sidekick: mycotoxins. These are the toxins that are created from mold die-off.
Mycotoxins come in four main flavors:
Trichothecenes
Fumonisins
Ochratoxins (this is the kind found in coffee!)
Aflatoxins
t was during this phase that some big game-changing shifts started to happen: he was starting to have LOW blood sugar. Ironically at this time, he gets yelled at by one of his doctors for eating corn muffins to raise his blood sugar when it was so low directly after a meal he was in danger of passing out. This is when he talked to his doctor about starting to lower his medication. He had made so much progress he outgrew his dosage!
So what’s the big deal with mycotoxins? If left untreated, they cause cancer, can change your DNA, and mess with your estrogen metabolism. They can also disrupt your immune system and nervous systems, kidneys, and liver. Emerging research indicates that mycotoxins also interact with the gut microbiota in negative ways.
What happened?
Where did he get this stuff in the first place? Short answer: Your food isn’t tested for mold.
As Julie Donaldson writes:
Cereal grains can be infected by the fungal genus Fusarium, which produces estrogenic compounds (mycoestrogens): highly stable compounds that can be ingested, inhaled, or absorbed through the skin (Whitten and Patisaul, 2001; Yang and Bittner, 2002). Zearalenone, a mycotoxin with estrogenic properties, is produced by the molds
F. graminearum and F. culmorum, which are commonly found in plants, soil, and stored grains such as barley, corn, rice, oats, and rye (Park et al., 1996; Boettger-Tong et al., 1998). Zearalenone has been associated with mammary tumorigenesis (Shier et al., 2001) and may be uterotropic (Sheehan et al., 1984). The uterine and mammary effects are induced by an interaction of zearalenone with estrogenic cytosolic receptors in these organs. Zearalenone also acts on the hypothalamic–hypophysial axis with release of prolactin and luteinizing hormone. When 500 cereal samples from 19 countries were analyzed for zearalenone, more than 40% had concentrations as high as 0.045 µg/g cereal (Tanaka et al., 1988), whereas concentrations of 21 µg/g have been reported in moldy corn in the United States (Park et al., 1996).
His internal drainage funnel had gotten clogged up by toxins, fungus, and other pathogens. When this started to open up, his kidneys, heart, and metabolic system started to regulate, and his internal systems started to work the way they were designed to work. He’s finally starting to see results.
How did we do it?
While I prefer to work with current lab testing which tests for toxins and hormones, for various reasons that is not always an option. In this case, we started with what we could see through our functional medicine intake exams, our Heart Sound Recorder, and muscle testing. One of the findings indicated a fungal infection at the top of his stomach, affecting his pyloric sphincter and causing the acid reflux and heartburn he regularly experienced.
This is definitely a time when we needed to move slow to move fast. He spent 3 months
draining his lymph and GI system. He got motivated to change his diet when he saw his blood sugar was starting to regulate. We needed to go slow on that, too, after years of contradictory advice from various docs. By the way, a fungal infection will make you crave sugar something FIERCE!
He had a question when all this happened. Given his early stage kidney disease, heart disease, blood sugar, and blood pressure issues, how are all of those things connected?
To answer that question, Dr. Baker, MD and Lauren our lovely new front desk assistant, and I trekked up to Orlando last week for the best training any of us have experienced on mitochondrial function. Given the combined number of trainings we’ve each attended, that’s a high compliment!
We were honored to study with some of the world’s leading researchers, long-time renowned in their fields. Dr. Jay Davidson and Dr. Todd Watts are the pioneers who have studied, researched, and created a new technology called carbon detoxing which is the most effective I’ve ever seen. In the back is a super-genius Tim Griswald who led us through the biochemistry required for understanding *why* this is so incredibly effective. You may recognize Dr. Darren Schmidt, renowned for his work with many things including mold; he is currently focused on lactic acidosis as a root cause for all disease. Other presenters were the adorable and brilliant lady in pink, Dr. Jessica Peatross, MD, expert on mold and lymph – we had to be sure to be the most fully awake for her because she talked FAST and is WHIP SMART! PANS/PANDAS expert Dr. Jaban Moore, and Applied Kinesiology experts Dr. Randy Watts and Dr. Allen Lindsley, along with Lori Dubetz on how to achieve client excellence.
The answer is a lot simpler than I thought it would be. Toxic build up from glyphosates and mycotoxins combined with CRITTERS: parasites et al affects not only these various different organs, but also the cellular communication between them. Glyphosate is one of the most common 21st century environmental toxins. Research has existed for years on its deleterious effects, but it’s only been recently that we’ve started discovering how far-reaching it is. I’m referring to its association with lowering testosterone rates and decreasing cognitive functioning.
Swan shares this depressing news in her NYT Best-Seller Count Down. Of course the biggest affects are multi-generational. I’m now seeing young men in their 30’s with problems they didn’t use to have until their 60’s: low energy, low libido, low motivation. But we’re not only talking about how it’s affecting current generations, but how increasing amounts of it are significantly affecting our children. For example, a 30 year old man today has about half of the amount of testosterone that his grandfather did at his age. Increasing number of animal species are showing up with genitalia abnormalities due to toxins interrupting hormones.
By seeing WHERE glyphosate hides, that helps know HOW to get it out of your body.
Because it is possible to remove glyphosate from the body! We can test for it through toxicant screening, use the proper materials like binders which are much more potent than existed on the market just five years ago. In combination with other appropriate support products these are EXTREMELY effective at getting the crud out!
There’s more to this story. When his stomach microbiome was changed by the glyphosate, it lowered his immune system and his neuro-chemical communication through his hormones. He couldn’t get enough nutrients from his food in this rigged game, even if he would have been eating the best food – and he wasn’t! He was eating sugary foods which added to his overall inflammation. His body tried to repair the damaged tissue by creating cholesterolpatches, but over time this squeezed his arteries tighter. This increased his blood pressure, which damaged more tissue, and caused him to patch it with more cholesterol.
Now all this fast blood is speeding around the body, dropping off toxins like it’s a Tasmanian
Devil. Remember this guy? Yeah, like that!
All that pressure and toxic heat is going to wear out the heart, and that presents as early stage congestive heart failure. And it’s going to wear down the kidneys, and that’s early stage kidney disease.
And it’s reversible. It requires dedication to doing the best you can. This gentleman has a heart of gold. We found the starting point that worked for him, and expanded when the time was right. And we stuck to the script: doing the right things in the right order.
Order matters!
Remember the Order of Operations? And what a big difference that makes?
100×2+100 is very different than 100x(2+100)! The first is 300, the second is 10,200! In the same way, doing the right things in the right order with your health is ultimately what leads to your fastest success, and the most elegant solution (meaning, least expensive over
time).
I AM so grateful to have clients like this fellow who are willing to try something
different, and to go slow in order to go fast.
Now let’s talk about how YOU can get some amazing results for yourself!
Do you know anyone struggling with weight loss? It’s a tough one, because there are
multiple factors – like drainage channels – that can rig the game against you. But it IS a
winnable game! And the best part is – it really is a game!
