For me, fasting is more than a health practice, it’s a tool for insight, healing, and deep connection. I’ve fasted since I was eight years old and continue to fast for physical and spiritual health. Here’s my personal story about parasites – – –
It was 2012, and I had just launched Longevity Wellness—though back then, it was called “Crane Acupuncture & Herbs.” I was beyond excited to step into my dream career as an acupuncturist and herbalist.
I had long prioritized my health. Great food, great exercise, and a disciplined routine were non-negotiables. I was the kind of person who showed up for 5 AM CrossFit classes—no excuses. So, when I went in for a routine Nutrition Response Testing (NRT) session, I wasn’t expecting any surprises.
But what we found stunned me.
Parasites. In my heart.
I had no symptoms that seemed obviously connected—at least, not at first. And there were no lab tests confirming it. Why? Because parasites are notoriously difficult to detect in standard stool tests. It’s not that labs can’t find them—it’s that insurance companies only reimburse for about 22 seconds of discovery time, when it takes 22 minutes on average to identify a parasite egg.
But I had already experienced the profound benefits of NRT, so I didn’t hesitate. I started treatment immediately. And suddenly, some subtle, unexplained symptoms began to make sense.
For years I had noticed that sometimes, when I lay down to rest at night, my heart would race. Not every night—but unpredictably, as if something triggered it. Later, I would realize: this always happened around the full moon (a time when parasites become more active).
Another odd sensation? Zumba class. Despite being an endurance athlete—capable of swimming, biking, and running for miles—I always felt a weird discomfort when doing movements that “shook up” my heart, like the shimmy in a dance class. It never quite felt right.
