Hi. I’m Dr. Cynthia Clark, acupuncture physician, applied clinical nutritionist, creator of Energy Evolution and President of Longevity Wellness.
Let’s talk about headaches. There are many different triggers for headaches including fatigue, sleep deprivation, side effects of medications or recreational drugs, dehydration, blood sugar disorders, allergies, viral infections, common cold, head injuries, dental issues, stress, food allergies, hypertension, clinical exposure and musculoskeletal disorders.
We’re going to talk about four different types of headaches. The first one is the sinus headache. The second one is the tension headache. The third is the migraine. It happens on one side of the head or the other and the fourth is a cluster and that happens just behind an eye.
Cochrane Reviews are systematic reviews of primary research in human healthcare and health policy and are internationally recognized as the highest standard in evidence-based healthcare.
Cochrane Review on acupuncture for tension type headaches was completed in 2016. After analyzing the data, the researchers concluded the available evidence suggests that a course of acupuncture consisting of at least six treatments can be a valuable option for people with frequent tension type headaches.
They also determined that how often patients got a tension type headache was cut in half and the effects of acupuncture was still present after six months.
A Cochrane Review for treating migraine was conducted in 2009. The researchers concluded available studies suggest that acupuncture is as or more effective than prophylactic drug treatment and has fewer adverse effects.
Acupuncture should be considered a treatment option for patients willing to undergo this treatment. Finally, a deeper dive into biomedicine, specifically the nitric oxide regulations for migraine relief. Nitric oxide is a signaling molecule which regulates blood pressure, contributes to the immune response. It controls neurotransmission and it participates in cell differentiation and many more physiological functions.
Of the people that I’ve treated with migraines over the years, it’s really my joy to see their lives come back to them, to see the time and energy that is sucked into pain and missing out on life being restored and to get them – to get to see them participate in things like weddings and happy parenting with love and patience and the fullness of life. I would love to help you with your headaches or your migraines. Please come see us at Longevity Wellness.
