Today, we’re going to talk about the third part in our series on Dermal Fillers. Fillers are substances that we put under the skin to help lift the skin back into normal proportion. Today’s discussion is on the advanced placement of dermal fillers.
The fillers that we use could be something such as a hyaluronic acid, we could use some calcium hydroxylapatite in the form of Radiesse. We can also use other substances that produce greater lift, greater support, such as for Voluma, Volbella. We also use some other products, such as Refyne and Defyne. And we use other products called, Sculptra, and we can… there are some additional products that are not natural occurring products about which we could speak when you come for your consult.
But the advanced placement is very important. Remember that when you’re treated by your aesthetic physician, you need to have someone who’s not just had basic and intermediate training, but has had advanced training. In the advanced classes that I teach for the physicians, many of them have had a strong surgical background. Because it’s not just what you can do as an outpatient with a needle application, or a cannula applications. It’s knowing what other options are available when you come in.
So, I work closely with other physicians, such as good aesthetic plastic surgeons. I am not a plastic surgeon, I am a cosmetic surgeon. I am a board certified surgeon, but I don’t do the high level work that my aesthetic plastic fellows do. If you come in with a question that really needs to be addressed via plastic surgery, we’ll review what your options are. But until you’re ready to take that step, there are some other areas that we can help you with.
What is a Liquid Brow Lift? So you may have noticed people or you may have relatives, or you may even experienced yourself that you have extra eyelid area right above that upper eyelid. If it becomes severe, it can actually affect your field of vision on the side and may be able to affect what your vision is when you’re driving. That’s not that you grew extra skin there. But it’s that you’ve lost the volume from here all the way down.
So with the advanced filler techniques, we can actually bring a brow up until you’re ready for a surgical procedure, or maybe in lieu of a surgical procedure. In the advanced approach, we also do things that are called, a Liquid Nose Job. So if you have irregularities, whether they’re genetic, familial, acquire, it doesn’t make any difference. If we want to smooth out some of the contours on the nasal area, we have that as options.
We also teach very strongly that there’s an area that needs to be avoided. So if you’re being treated with fillers, and someone offers to put filler right here between your brows, I would encourage you to consider rescheduling your appointment. We teach if that’s not an area where we like to have fillers. And that’s a reason that we will discuss at your consult.
We can actually also restore some of the volume loss on the side. It’s called, Temporal Halloween. And it’s not something that patients notice right away, but they may see it more so in photographs than anything else. When they’ve lost that beautiful Nike sweep of the cheek from the lateral cheek from their youthful cheek, we can restore that by bringing the fill up.
We already talked about the basic indications of a nasal labial fold what people call the parentheses, and what people call the puppet lines or melomental folds. But we also have the ability that if there’s Halloween underneath that cheekbone, we have very good products to smooth that down.
If you lost some of the support of your earlobes, we actually do earlobe regeneration, and we’d like to be able to keep that jawline, a nice smooth jawline. If you have problems with jowling, we have ways to help you and restore volume so that you have a more straight, nice, natural strong jawline.
For women, as they age, they get softer in the area and the fat support drops down. So while I don’t like the fact that we actually will change over time, it’s one of those complaints that I hear when someone comes in; “I was walking by the mirror and I saw my mom.” Or, “I was walking by the mirror and just at the corner of my eye, I saw my dad.”
