Life has a way of moving faster than we expect. Sometimes it’s exhilarating, sometimes chaotic, and other times, it demands that we pause and pay attention. For me, December 6th of this year was one of those moments, a wedding that carried profound significance. But the months leading up to it were filled with what some might call “disaster moments,” and yet, through it all, I found clarity in one simple but powerful concept: being fully present.
This year has been a whirlwind. Between the loss of my father, completing an Ironman race in Wisconsin, running a busy clinic in Lakewood Ranch, and managing the usual demands of life, it was no surprise that a few balls were dropped along the way. Invitations were sent later than intended. Finding a catering service in December felt like a miracle. The venue lacked basic amenities like tea and coffee, which meant last-minute trips to rent equipment. The final dress alteration wasn’t final at all, requiring more adjustments. Makeup trials didn’t go as planned, and a bridesmaid’s dress didn’t fit right before the ceremony. It truly took a village to make that beautiful day happen, and I am immensely grateful to everyone who helped.
A few days before the wedding, a close friend offered a piece of wisdom that shifted my perspective entirely. Amid all the chaos and stress, she reminded me of the purpose behind it all: being fully present. And in that moment, it all made sense.
The Power of Being Fully Present
Being fully present is not just about mindfulness or meditation; it’s a guiding principle that shapes how we experience life. It’s about intentionally showing up for every moment, whether it’s joyous, challenging, or ordinary. This principle is central not only to personal well-being but also to holistic healing and integrative care, something I focus on daily in Lakewood Ranch.
When we are fully present, we become aware of all the things to be thankful for. If a child is crying, we are grateful to be there to comfort them rather than leaving them alone. If a friend is frustrated or venting, we can offer love, support, and understanding. When a parent is sick, suffering, or even struggling with dementia, presence allows us to honor the shared space and reflect on the care and guidance they have given us throughout our lives.
Healing, love, gratitude, and presence are deeply intertwined. Trying to separate them feels like removing instruments from an orchestra, possible, but something essential is lost. They are braided together, intermingled, and beautifully interwoven, creating a symphony of connection and meaning.
In my practice in Lakewood Ranch, I see firsthand how presence impacts healing. True holistic and integrative healing is not only about addressing physical symptoms, it’s about emotional and spiritual well-being. Presence allows patients to feel safe, supported, and seen. It creates the conditions for profound transformation.
Over the years, I’ve navigated the challenges of running a business. Statistics show that 80% of restaurants fail in the first five years, and 66% of acupuncturists do. I’ve been in practice through multiple major hurricanes, personal life changes, dramatic technological shifts, the COVID pandemic, and the rise of Artificial Intelligence. Through four Ironman races, three Half Ironman races, managing a nine-person clinic, and practicing solo, one thing remains constant: my deep love for this work.
Even with administrative tasks that I may not enjoy, every moment spent in connection with patients, workshop attendees, or members of my community is a privilege. Whether it’s a Graceful Aging workshop, a clinic appointment, or a recommendation from someone who believes in our work, each interaction fills my heart with gratitude, healing, and purpose.
Being fully present naturally cultivates gratitude. Gratitude opens our hearts to love, compassion, and generosity, all of which are essential for holistic healing. In Lakewood Ranch, I am honored to be part of a community that values connection and wellness. Each patient, colleague, and friend contributes to this village of care, creating an environment where healing is not only possible but profoundly transformative.
In moments of challenge, whether personal or professional – presence allows us to embrace life fully. It teaches patience, empathy, and resilience. It reminds us that even when things don’t go according to plan, there is meaning and beauty in the process.
This year’s experiences, from my Ironman race to personal losses, taught me that the pursuit of health, healing, and well-being is inseparable from the act of showing up fully in life. Being present matters in the final moments with a loved one, during daily routines, in moments of stress, and in moments of joy. It is through this presence that we can appreciate the richness of life and the depth of our relationships.
The lessons of this year, crystallized in a wedding day filled with last-minute challenges, remind me that life is not about perfection, it’s about connection, gratitude, and presence. Each moment we give attention to becomes an opportunity for healing, love, and reflection.
As we approach 2026, I am excited for the opportunities that lie ahead for our clinic and our community in Lakewood Ranch. New workshops, integrative health programs, and initiatives are on the horizon, all designed to help you experience life fully, with presence, awareness, and gratitude.
During the holiday season and beyond, I encourage you to take time to reflect, pause, and fully engage with the moments around you. Whether it’s comforting a loved one, attending to your health, or simply noticing the beauty in your day, presence transforms ordinary experiences into meaningful ones.
At my clinic in Lakewood Ranch, I am privileged to guide individuals and families on their journey toward holistic health and healing. By embracing presence, gratitude, and mindful engagement, we create a space where physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness thrive. Holistic care is not about quick fixes—it’s about showing up fully for your life and for those you love.
