Gentlemen in your 60s, most commonly, at this point, you’re looking at retirement, and you’re also looking at some health issues that go along with that. But the transition between having a purposeful mission where you know where you are wanted and needed every single day, you know how to do a good job, and you know how to receive reward for it, and having that all taken away and possibly have to become second in command in your own home to your wife, who’s been first in command in the house for a long time, this could be really challenging. Not just mentally, but physically.
There is a specific statistic about the number of men that passed away shortly after retirement within two years of retirement, and it’s higher than you’d want to see it. Many men have chosen this time during the lockdown and during this transition time in their lives to assuage that with alcohol. And this alcohol, it both aggravates existing health conditions, and it can also cause if you haven’t been a drinker before, it can also cause health conditions. Most importantly, it’s not your last chance. It’s not, you’re not destined to poor health.
When I was biking up a small mountain, I’m in Florida, so you know, we have these hills. I was passed by a gentleman who had his age written on the back of his calf, and that number was 73. The guy passes me like I’m standing still. And what I thought was, wow, and what a relief. I’ve got 30 years to catch up to him. So, know that your health situation is reversible. There’s a great deal that you can do. And knowing the right action to take at the right time is what’s going to keep you in command of your own health.
